My guy (looking all debonair from our wedding 18 months ago) was “dragged” through a bunch of me-events yesterday. First, he drove me to work in the morning. This was done so that later, we’d have only one car running around. It was questionable for a little while whether or not he’d be able to do so, as Friday was the day we were getting a washer & dryer delivered to our lovely home.
Most of the day he spend playing Lego Star Wars Complete Saga on the Wii. When you think about all the other insane things he’s doing during the week, it’s hard to begrudge him the fun. Especially when I know the house is picked up (if not spotless), the cats are fed & taken care of and he’s done all the dishes. I’m keeping this in mind when I look out in the backyard on this very chilly fall day realizing I need to go rake it alone.
At the end of my workday he was outside waiting for me, very patiently, for twenty minutes as I got to talking with someone on my way out the door. Then we were off to dinner with my friend J & her gf L. We haven’t seen each other in…probably six weeks or so. She and I have had lunch, but it was more of a quick update session over ninety minutes than a social fun fest. This was all social. We chatted and dined and about two hours passes when we realized we now had to drive very fast to get to the show. Luckily, we nabbed four seats together and I got to listen to her chuckle at the various silly moments.
After the show, the Bald One tolerated round one of social niceties with my theater circle. For added bonus points, he was reintroduced to my boss (who’s niece was the director of the show) and the two stood together like awkward men in a bridal shop – fully aware they should have an opinion yet thinking anything they might say would be wrong. It was darling to see as I chatted about coffee, the show and upcoming projects with people I knew.
The theater cleared out and we headed off to the cast & crew party. Once there, we were briefly put to work before settling down in a corner and chatting with friends for a few hours. The dreaded question of “what time is it?” was eventually asked and suddenly people realized it was well after midnight and cross town drives needed to be done. I dozed off in the car, as I often do as he battled our way through the night-time construction on the highway home. Then it was to bed and snuggling and the deep sleep of the oncoming weekend.
He’s off to G’Vegas today for his goddaughter’s seventh birthday. I’m home, looking forward to raking the lawn in comparison, because unlike him, I don’t play well with others.

That was lovely.
He’s a keeper.
